Wet weather persists in central United States this week

High pressure east and a dip in the jet stream west.

The week ahead is dominated by high pressure in the eastern United States and a jet stream dip near the West Coast. It’s a convoluted enough pattern that there are still some questions to be resolved about its progress. For now, it’s a safe bet that more heavy rain is coming to portions of the central states.

Weather Watch

Rain in the Plains. Rounds of heavy precipitation are likely this week from the Southern and central Plains to the mid-Mississippi Valley region. Much of the Plains is expecting an inch to several inches over the next handful of days, with similar forecast across the mid-South. There’s also a chance for mainly minor episodes of severe weather nearly daily — something more impressive may come along to end the month.

It’s been a big spring for massive dust storms. Another was spawned as low pressure strengthened in the southern Plains Saturday. The Weather Prediction Center shared the stunning image below.

Thunderstorms developed from southwest Texas to around the Dallas region and into Oklahoma into Saturday night, dropping several tornadoes and causing deadly flooding.
