Southern Rockies snowstorm as rain plagues the South
Flood risk focused on Louisiana through Tuesday.
Although the happenings in some parts of the country (and globe) might have locals feeling otherwise, the global pattern remains oddly quiet compared to the typical onslaught of extreme conditions of late. Considering the chaos will likely return before we know it … I suppose we should enjoy a comparative breather?
Weather Watch
Rain in the South. Inches of rain and more flooding are imminent in the South. The focus today is east Texas, Louisiana and southern Mississippi, where 2 to 6 inches of rain is anticipated through Wednesday. Tornadoes are also again possible, with a focus north of Houston for strong twister potential.

High heat inbound. Turning up the heat late week, as highs should approach 100 in the Central Valley of California, plus head into the 80s or 90s as far north as Idaho and Montana. That should be good enough for records to be set from California to South Dakota Friday through the weekend.

May snowstorm

Heavy snow is falling in the Southern Rockies Wednesday as one of several slow-moving upper-level storm systems crawls by to the south.
May snow is far from unheard of in the mountain peaks of the region. In fact, it’s relatively common, although this event is on the heftier side.
Perhaps most interestingly, the same region was hit by a snowstorm in early fall, nearly seven months ago now. These two events are likely the largest of the winter season for some folks (or wildlife).
