Southern California drenching on Tuesday

The tropics are still sort of awake, as well.

With the pesky nor’easter giving up its grip on East Coast weather, focus turns to the West on Tuesday. Southern California will have a time of it with plenty of rain, perhaps a quick twister and high elevation snow.

Weather watch

California stormin’. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued from Santa Maria to parts of the Los Angeles area overnight as a big cold upper-level low moves into the region. It’ll be a bit of a washout in central and southern parts of the state, including around 1” and the potential for weak tornadoes in the LA region, in what would be a decent storm for winter there. The October part makes it fairly rare as up to 2+ feet of snow falls in the Sierre Nevada mountains.

Tropics. Lorenzo is wandering the eastern Atlantic, not looking too great. It’s expected to make a loop as a tropical storm and not cause much concern. Potential for a new Caribbean region storm is still sort of out there in the distance, but it doesn’t have a ton of support at the moment. The American GFS is still holding onto it, yet it’s far enough out not to be bothered too much (the run below also moves to hit central America later with a strong storm — but at like day 15).
