The summer solstice is upon us. Weather across the United States (and across the pond, in the UK) is mostly prototypical summer. But in the extreme.
Weather Watch
Widespread heat. About 100 million people are under heat alerts heading into the weekend, including Chicago and Minneapolis, which are under excessive heat warning. Heat watches extend to New Jersey with more alerts to come for the Interstate 95 corridor as the core of broiling weather approaches.
Summer snow. Winter weather alerts are in effect for the mountains of western Montana. Snowfall will also plaster the peaks in parts of Washington and Oregon. More than 30 inches are in the forecast for the highest elevations of remote northwestern Montana through the weekend.
