Europe turning the corner to winter storm season

And South Florida continues to see daily downpours.

Following a hot and droughty summer, a storm onslaught is getting underway in and around the United Kingdom. Guess who is headed that way late next week… (Hint: The Weather Retort will be on break from Sept. 18-26).

Weather Watch

Europe storm/s. A strengthening and slow-moving low-pressure area north of the UK will spread cooler and showery conditions across much of northern and occasionally central to southern Europe. On Wednesday a flood threat exists in and around Italy where heavy thunderstorms are forecast. The dip in the jet stream over the region seems in no hurry to shift, which could lead to several strong storm systems passing by into at least next week.

Florida rain. Around 5 inches of rain is forecast in coming days for coastal southeast Florida, including more than 5.5 inches around the Miami suburb of Doral. There’s a level 2 of 4 flood risk there the next several days, although drought conditions going in may help keep flooding localized.
