Erin sending huge waves to the East Coast as California awaits heat pulse
Storm is large and will pass between U.S. and Bermuda.
I visited the National Guard welcoming committee at Union Station on Monday. It was pretty boring, to be honest, but the armored vehicles look so much bigger in person. Even more exciting: it was like 25 degrees cooler than the mid-90s the day prior — the one time you love an east wind… Sorry, rambling.
Weather watch
California’s looming heat. Extreme heat watches are up for the Los Angeles area as some of the hottest weather so far this year is expected later this week. High heat is in the process of migrating westward the next few days as heat alerts remain numerous in the lower Mississippi Valley region, including a warning for Memphis where it is forecast to reach 102 on Tuesday. Interestingly, a lot of coastal and just inland California tends to see its hottest weather of the season late summer into early fall.

Erin still Erining. Hurricane Erin has continued to have some structural readjustment issues that kept it from restrengthening. The storm is still quite large and intense, with winds of 110 mph as of 8 a.m. this morning. Erin is sending out huge waves that will increasingly target most of the East Coast ahead — perhaps as high as 10 to 20 feet over a large area, with other widespread water impacts including deadly rip currents plus some storm surge.
